Our purpose is to promote the evidence-based development of death literacy and grief literacy in the Australian community.
We want all Australians to have the skills and know-how to take action when someone is dying, grieving, or caregiving.
Our Goals
Death and Grief Literacy:
To promote and advance death literacy and grief literacy within the community through educational programs, resources, and support services.
To facilitate open conversations about death, dying, loss, and grief, fostering a culture that promotes understanding and compassion.
Training and Education:
To provide evidence-based training programs for professionals, community members, and organisations.
To develop and deliver training resources that empower individuals and organisations to navigate and support those facing death and grief.
Research and Evaluation:
To conduct and support research initiatives aimed at advancing knowledge in the areas of death literacy, grief literacy, and their impact on public health.
To evaluate the effectiveness of education and training programs and support services, incorporating evidence-based practices.
Public Health:
To contribute to public health initiatives by addressing the social and emotional aspects of death, grief, and loss within the community.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals, organisations, Universities, and public health agencies to integrate death and grief support into broader health strategies.
Our name, “SEAKTer,” is pronounced “sector,” and it is inspired by the four components of Death Literacy: Skills, Experience, Action, and Knowledge. These components have the acronym SEAK, and the TER stands for Training, Education, and Research.
We are a registered charity with the ACNC and an incorporated association in NSW.
